Plac Zbawiciela

Urban Space

architect. Jan Christian Szuch
finished. late 18th c.

Initially the plaza was an element of the gardens belonging to the king and it is here it gained it's characteristic star shape. Plac Zbawiciela is probably my favorite square in Warsaw. Despite the mix of architectural styles that form it it's proportion makes it comfortable and beautiful. Plac Konstytucji is really a plaza designed at a car scale and Plac Zbawiciela feels definately human in proportion. Most of the buildings that surround it date from the turn of the 19th/20th century and originally had more art deco ornaments. The facades that have arcades date from the 50's when there was a conception to make the plaza completely uniform.

There is a nice bar Plan B and a nice coffee shop Karma.
